In Laura Horelli’s (born 1976) video I have been considering making a video about a ski resort in northern Finland and showing it in a gallery in Berlin an actress, acting an artist’s protagonist plans to shoot a video in the Levi Ski Centre in Finnish Lapland, but finds herself instead on the slopes of indoor skiing centre in Senftenberg, close to Berlin.

In this semi-documentary, typical of Horelli, the narrative comments the contemporary world without being directly political. By zooming in on the actions of the individual Horelli provides us means to reflect our behavior. Artificial snow is made in the Arctic Circle and in the heat of the southern parts of the world alike. By doing this, enormous amounts of water and energy are consumed. The largest indoor skiing centres are situated in China, in a country where there’s constant shortage of water.

Laura Horelli graduated from Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts’ Time and Space -department in 2001 and continued her studies in Frankfurt am Main’s Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künst. Since 2001 she has lived and worked in Berlin.

The video I have been considering making a video about a ski resort in northern Finland and showing it in a gallery in Berlin has been supported by AVEK, The Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture.

Turku Art Museum's exhibition series in the Darkroom has been supported by the Arts Council of Finland.
